A series of powerful quakes followed by a tsunami hit the eastern Honshu coast in the morning of March 11. Aftershocks continue to rock Japan after a 9.0-magnitude earthquake and tsunami shook the country on March 11. A magnitude 7.1 earthquake hit northeast Japan on April 7 and a tsunami warning was issued.
