Allianz Car Insurance has illustrated some interesting facts about Australian roads and how far we travel on them in an infographic. There are 198 highways in Australia. The Stuart Highway is Australia’s longest highway at 2,710 kilometres: that’s approximately 667,500 average, midsized cars lined up end-to-end. The Bruce Highway in Queensland is the most dangerous one with a high road toll each year. With significant distances between Australia’s cities – Perth in the south west and Darwin in the north lie 4,250 kilometres apart – people depend on a well-established road network. Passenger vehicles consumed 18,413 million litres of fuel in 2010, while they travelled an estimated 226,632 million kilometres.
